My Freshman Year
In My Freshman Year, I found it very interesting how some students in college still see people from a different ethnicity or background differently. One of my good friends from high school was a foreign exchange student herself and actually traveled to France during her senior year. When she came back home, she had many stories to tell of how the cities and people were different there compared to the United States. Even she agreed that people there were much more respectful and nicer compared to the way some people treat foreign exchange students here. Just as the author found out from the foreign exchange friends she made and the information they told her, the people she met in France tried to help her adjust to living there as much as they could. I find it very important to treat everyone, no matter their race or ethnicity, the same and try to become friends with them because they are not used to living the “American style”.

The Mind at Work
In The Mind at Work, I read about the life of a waitress and connected it back to when my sister was a waitress and would tell me the stories she experienced. As the author noted, some customers needed immediate attention and service, even when it was crazy busy and someone could not serve them right away. From the stories my sister told me, I know the whole environment is very busy with people everywhere so you always have to pay attention and stay focused on your job and your customers. I think it’s important for any customer who enters a restaurant that a waiter or waitress cannot always meet all of your needs but they will try to as much as they can.
